Tonight’s State of the Union was great entertainment. If you’re a Trump supporter you loved it. If you’re a Trump hater, you hated it, and it wasn’t a good night for you. Because like him or not, that speech killed it. That’s just a fact. Dude brought out every wild card in the deck tonight in order to push his policies regarding immigration, foreign policy, and the economy:

The only thing he was missing was a transgendered Muslim on an expired green card. This was all by design too. His critics call him a racist, so he trots out a diversity rainbow to show how his policies are helping people of different races. I’m watching CNN right now and Van Jones just called that a brilliant speech. That says it all.
The best part was when he bragged about black unemployment rates being the lowest they’ve been in years and the cameras immediately panned over to the congressional black caucus who was still focused on the word “shithole”:

From an unbiased point of view, is there any worse look than this? How can you be a champion for black people and NOT applaud low black unemployment rates? At least give it a pity clap. Act like you’re happy when good things happen to black people, instead of looking like you want black people to fail so that you can keep selling them a cure for their problems. It’s mind boggling. These people cannot stop help doing the exact same things that led to Trump becoming President in the first place.

Here’s my question – why does Joe Kennedy represent Brookline AND Fall River? How does a congressional map end up looking like this?
Kennedy represents the 4th. I hear a lot about how gerrymandering is a bad thing when I watch CNN. But if you looked up gerrymandering in the dictionary this map is what you would see a picture of. The problem is that the 4th district has a lot of conservative towns in it:
Wrentham, the Attleboro’s, Plainville, Mansfield. If you put too many of those towns in the same district you MIGHT get a Republican congressman once every blue moon. But a great way to prevent that armageddon from occurring is to play connect the dots and put in two left leaning population centers together like Brookline/Newton, and Fall River/Taunton, and it doesn’t really matter how much red is between them. Blue will always win. It’s the same reason why #2 has Worcester and Northampton/Amherst, and why #5 connects Framingham to Revere. Because everyone gerrymanders. It’s just how you play the game.
Anyway, the bottom line is that Trump killed it tonight and Joe Kennedy learned a valuable lesson about visiting Fall River that he could’ve learned by reading Turtleboy. Good night.

What is now Fall River was first established in the 1600s by English settlers who were not “immigrants” but colonists. A native-born family, the Bordens ran a mill in what became the town for generations before and after the American revolution. Industrialization began when Col. Joseph Durfee, a native-born Revolutionary War hero built the first factory in 1811. Later, at the end of the 19th Century a wave of immigrants swelled the town’s population. Immigrants, however, never made up a majority of the population of Bristol County, where Fall River lies, even at their early 20th Century peak.
