Here’s this week’s lawsuit of the week, which was recently in the news:

A former member of Worcester Polytechnic Institute’s women’s softball team claims in a new lawsuit against the school she was permanently injured in a hazing ritual during spring training last year. Caroline Roch, who has since transferred to another school, also alleges the team’s head coach attempted to cover up the incident. In a civil complaint filed in Worcester Superior Court last week, the New Jersey resident is asking a jury to award her damages for negligence, saying she has spent $118,019 on medical expenses and other costs stemming from her injury, which has left her no longer able to play softball. In a statement on Tuesday, WPI denied Ms. Roch’s allegations of negligence and hazing.

Sounds pretty serious. They must’ve done something pretty horrible and archaic to cause that amount of damage. Right?

Ms. Roch’s lawsuit says the incident happened at a team dinner meeting held on March 9, 2015, at a Florida residence “occupied and in the control of” the parents of softball head coach Whitney Goldstein. The purpose for the gathering, in part, she alleges, was for coaches and veteran members of the team to haze freshman players. Ms. Roch, whom WPI’s website listed as a catcher on the 2014-15 squad, says she and other first-year players were made to line up with their backs to a swimming pool on the property and perform a song and dance.

So they had the girls line up against a pool and sing and dance. Horrific, I know. What happened next to cause her hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of injuries? Did they hit all the girls with a sledgehammer?

Screen Shot 2016-05-31 at 12.26.24 PM

“The upper class members of the team would suddenly and without warning charge at the freshmen and forcefully batter them, pushing them backwards and thereby causing them to fall down into the swimming pool,” the complaint says.

No way!!! You’re telling me they were pushed into the pool? The very same pool they were standing directly next to? What were the odds of that? Did they get wet too?? My God, what if one of them was a Chia pet or the Wicked Witch of the West? This is worse than Apartheid. It’s literally never happened before. No one has ever been playfully pushed into a pool unsuspectingly. This isn’t a normal part of growing up or anything like that. Very serious stuff.

Ms. Roch, however, was pushed onto the edge of the swimming pool, causing her right shoulder to become immediately dislocated, she claims. Her suit further alleges that Ms. Goldstein and the other defendants named in the suit – Ms. Goldstein’s husband, Matthew, her parents, David and Donna Mollica, and assistant coaches Richard Beaulac and Katie Bettencourt – “determined that Ms. Roch was not seriously injured and told her she did not need to seek professional medical assistance.”

So let me get this straight. She dislocated her shoulder falling into a pool of water? Yea, that story checks out.

Screen Shot 2016-04-30 at 11.15.26 PM

Later that evening, Ms. Roch said she seemed to feel her shoulder pop back into place, but when she tried to rotate it, it dislocated again, at which point she went to a local hospital to be checked. According to her complaint, she underwent surgery two months later, on May 19, for what ended up being a “virtual around-the-world” lesion of her labrum. During her ensuing rehabilitation, Mr. Roch says, her shoulder popped out several more times from causes such as a coughing fit and her holding onto a stairway railing while falling, almost all of which required more hospital visits to relocate the joint.

The girl tried to rotate her shoulder back into place, when she dislocated it again, because she is apparently a doctor. Sounds like she’ll have to sue herself for malpractice. Yup, this sounds like WPI’s fault for sure.

She claims to continue to feel pain in her shoulder, as well as “emotional distress” from the incident that lead to an eventual diagnosis of post-traumatic stress disorder. In addition, Ms. Roch alleges the softball team’s coaches and some players “treated (her) in a gradually increasing unfriendly, shunning and hostile” manner after March 9, leading her to leave the school after her freshman year and enroll at Furman University in South Carolina.

Oh for fuck’s sake. Doctors are just handing out PTSD diagnosis’s like it’s cheap wine now. Because I’m sure getting thrown into a pool is the exact same thing as watching your friends blow up in a convoy in Fallujah. Up until this point you might’ve believed her story was legit. She got hurt in a harmless hazing incident gone wrong. Could’ve happened. But once she starts playing the PTSD card it’s pretty obvious that she’s full of shit.

Anyway, we obviously went right to Caroline’s Facebook page to see what she was all about. And I’m not gonna lie, we were shocked at what we found:

As you can see, she is a piping hot junior smokeshow. Not gonna lie, I was caught off guard. That will teach Turtleboy to have preconceived notions about catchers from the WPI softball team. But once you think about it, it kind of makes sense. A rugged softball girl wouldn’t be whining about PTSD from getting thrown into a pool. A junior smokeshow might.

And guess where she’s from?

Screen Shot 2016-07-05 at 10.02.43 AM

Yup, Jersey. Mendham, NJ is also a VERY affluent town, where the median income is over $120,000. It was home to Whitney Houston, Abner Doubleday, and Neil Cavuto. Clearly this girl is a spoiled, wealthy, Jersey girl, who is soft as snow because she grew up in a pampered environment. Thus she is triggered by being harmlessly pushed into a pool of water in Florida.

This is not the first time we’ve seen a frivolous lawsuit against a Worcester college coach from a rich junior smokeshow from Jersey. A couple of years ago a hot blonde named Ashley Cooper sued Holy Cross, alleging that legendary women’s basketball coach Bill Gibbons was abusive to her because he yelled at her for being awful at basketball. Ya see, Ashley, just like Caroline, was a big shit in high school. But when she got to college she sucked during her limited playing time. So when Gibbons got on her, like any good coach would, this hurt her feelings and she sued. Bill Gibbons was forced to step down for an entire season while they investigated the claims which turned out to be baseless. His reputation was permanently damaged.

65kfe

And just like Ashley Cooper, guess who wasn’t getting much playing time? That would Caroline Roch. She was “triggered” and “injured” on March 9, 2015. Up until that point WPI softball, which is VERY good, had played only four games. Guess how many Caroline played in? That would one. She hit a three run double in the second game of a double header against Rhode Island College in order to give the starting catcher a rest.

And coincidentally her shoulder became dislocated later that night. Do you think perhaps that she could have become injured on that day because she just so happened to play softball, a game that involves extensive use of your shoulders? Nah, that can’t be it. Must’ve been because she was tossed into a pool.

Another similarity is that just like Bill Gibbons, coach Whitney Goldstein is incredibly accomplished. WPI just won the NEWMAC Championship this year after going 35-7. So what we have here is another accomplished, well respected coach being dragged into the mud by a Jersey princess who had her feelings hurt. This is everything that is wrong with millennials today. Someone find this girl a safe space!!

13177106_10103488312480712_199235613545235758_n

Oh yea, and Caroline Roch claims she now plays softball for Furman University, a school in South Carolina that she had to transfer to because of all the PTSD in Worcester. Except when you go to Furman’s softball page, she is not listed on the rosterAwkward.

The bottom line is that suing WPI is so hot right now. There’s another girl suing the school for millions because she was raped in a WPI-leased building in Puerto Rico, even though the school supported her and the rapist is in jail for 20 years. We’ve trained this generation to be perpetual victims, because being a victim can make your wildest dreams come true. They see schools like WPI as a never ending cash cow that they can rip off. They’re soft as shit and don’t know how to handle adversity. And their parents enable them by lawyering up instead of telling their kids to toughen up. Good for WPI for fighting back against these bullies.

This girl is living proof that you don’t have to be a filthy welfare skank from Worcester to try and pull off a slip and fall law suit. Lets be honest, Worcester has baby mamas trying to sue somebody for something everyday but they aren’t hotties so TB doesn’t write about them.

It’s an absolute shame that this turtleboy dickweed has the right to go online and degrade her like this, when he has no idea what actually happened. It’s easy to sit there and spill all your skeptical beliefs about this individual because she is from Mendham, is stunning, and doesn’t seem like she could get pushed into the side of a pool from hazing, but if you don’t know her then you have no right to go online and type anything. I happen to know Caroline very well from our time at Furman, and I witnessed first hand the pain and suffering both mentally and physically she has been through in the past year, because I was the one taking her to the hospital every time she popped her shoulder out by literally reaching to shut a car door, or even coughing. Softball was her biggest passion, and it was suddenly taken away from her because of a stupid freak accident. Yes weird shit happens, but instead of admitting their mistake and seeking the right medical care, the coach and players tried to hide what they did, and the school fully deserves what they’ve got coming. So my point is if you don’t really know what happened, keep your blog happy fingers off the keyboard “turtle-boy.”

You don’t know anything about her. You don’t know her life, her financial situation, her personality, her family, her story, or anything. All you know is what WPI and the courts are saying. Just because someone loves inmendham doesn’t mean they are a spoiled rich kid. Her injuries were and are serious and that coach was completely in the wrong. She covered it up and did not give Caroline the appropriate respect. She sat back and watched as her seniors hazed the freshmen and Caroline was dragged into the side of the pool..after having 2 Lebrun surgeries and 3 shoulder dislocations where her shoulder was down by the bottom of her ribcage, she deserves to sue and the shook deserves to pay for her mental and physical injuries. You guys are idiots and bullies

    • FiestyLawyerLady
      July 6, 2016 at 5:58 am

Impossible for her shoulder to hang by the lower part of her ribcage. If you want people to believe your story how about you don’t exaggerate the details. My hubby dislocated his friends shoulder on accident when they were playing football. The lowest part it will hang is near the breast bone and it may have appeared that low because he was hunched over. Below the ribcage is on some Ripley’s believe it or not level.

          July 6, 2016 at 11:48 am

It’s medically impossible for her shoulder to be at the same level of her lower ribcage. Thats about 10 inches…That’s called, “My arm was ripped off and no longer attached to my body” not dislocated.

Don’t you have to have proof of insurance to go to college? Pretty sure my son had to show proof.
If this is true, why were her medical bills so high?

    • FiestyLawyerLady
      July 6, 2016 at 5:52 am

Yeah, she’s full of shit. I have great insurance and with a 10 day hospital stay, several expensive tests and exams, boatload of IV meds for 10 days, and a surgery with 2 surgeons and 2 assistants the cost was around $168k…. YUP! I fully paid a measly (in comparison) $5,400 out of pocket and I saved around $950 by paying within 60 days (incentive). How is her minor injury (in comparison) over 100k?

She will probably settle and get 1/3 of that amount and after the standard 27-33% her attorney robs, she’s left with peanuts.

  • Publius
    July 5, 2016 at 5:47 pm

Once again TB beats everyone to the punch. There was little doubt when the lawsuit was filed this was about playing time, being spoiled and expecting a trophy all the time. But TB got the pictures.

  • Rational Person
    July 5, 2016 at 5:11 pm

TB left out the bit about the coach allegedly making the other players delete video of the incident and telling them to say that she jumped in the pool all by herself.

  • Hetero white male
    July 5, 2016 at 4:38 pm

Oh please TB. The shoulder injury is probably legit and I would be pissed too if some dumbass wrecked my shoulder and ruined my season. Of course she should sue them. The PTSD is definitely bullshit, but come on, it was clearly a move by the lawyer to try to milk the case. That’s called doing your job. Let it go to court. You sound like the whiny one here…

There were no catchers at WPI looking like that when I was there in 1974! Well, I think there were like ten females, including four dykes. Or something like that. Kind of hazy, you could drink at 18 back then, legally…

They’ll settle for $12k cash and free tuition. That’s all she wants.

The PTSD stuff is pretty bogus and I agree it is overly diagnosed. That being said, you seem to blow off the dislocated shoulder thing a little too easily. Clearly it was a real injury and no reason to think it didn’t happen as she said. Accident or not, it was the actions of a team hazing situation that caused this girls injury. As a parent of two kids I would be pretty pissed my child got hurt at a supervised hazing ritual. Suing for PTSD is lame vut she has every right to sue foe her injury IMO.

It says she hit the edge of the pool. So if she was standing at the end near one of the sides, it is possible she clipped the side of the pool with her shoulder as she went in. Maybe the PTSD is a result of her inability to play softball, which was probably how she was paying for college. I think there’s a lot of information missing from this story.

    • Jake from State Farm
      July 5, 2016 at 12:45 pm

Don’tBeAMoron, …. this is a shame to all those that truly suffer from PTSD. You really believe that’s how she was paying for college? Did you read the article about where she grew up? I don”t think WPI gives anything significant for scholarships (men or women).

      • GoneWest
        July 5, 2016 at 1:21 pm

I agree it’s very possible she could have dislocated her shoulder on the edge of the pool. PSTD from not being able to play softball? Jake is right, that’s complete bullshit. There is no way she was struggling to pay for college. Google Mendham NJ.

As I said, there is a lot of information missing from this story. The blog posts lately are pretty lame and now that the comment section is being dominated by a couple of narcissists who make every story about them, I don’t enjoy riding the turtle as much.

Also, if the median income for her hometown is $120,000 and if her family is in that income bracket, they’re going to need a lot of financial aid to pay out-of-state tuition plus room and board and fees at WPI.

        • Don'tBeAJerk
          July 5, 2016 at 2:55 pm
