“TAUNTON – Taunton police have arrested the man they say intentionally set five fires in the city within a two-hour span last week — and security surveillance footage played a key role in the investigation, police said.
Derek M. Lindsay, 46, of Taunton was held without bail Monday in Taunton District Court pending a dangerousness hearing on June 17. He was arraigned on three counts of arson of a dwelling, two counts of burning personal property and one count of breaking and entering a building in the nighttime for a felony.
Using surveillance video from various businesses in the area, police were able to track the suspect heading toward the location of the first reported fire and then to each fire after that, the report said.
In one case, he is seen on video lighting the fire, at 29 Leonard Court, the report says.
“Video shows Lindsay walk to the rear of the 29 Leonard Court and then there is a flash of light, when the fire is started,” the report says.
Lindsay has 160 previous adult arraignments and eight juvenile arraignments, according to the police report.
He is currently homeless and is well known to police, said the report, which noted he has numerous tattoos on his neck, legs and arms.
A prominent tattoo on his neck says, “deranged mental lunatic.” “
Well, at least he’s self aware?
If arson had a face, it would be this one, for sure. Fuck that whole “Don’t judge a book by it’s cover,” cliche. Judge away. If you don’t look at this guy,
and see the face of a man who would arbitrarily set fires in front of a surveillance camera, after premeditating it all out in a broken caps lock, emoji-laden Facebook rant:
Then you might be crazy, too. He’s an open book.
This is only the latest in this sludgepump’s prolific career as a violent criminal and overall menace to society. He has 160 previous arraignments. He’s shown up to court more than some of the court employees, I’m sure of it. This guy is DA Rachel Rollins wet dream – he’s picked up every sort of charge you could ever possibly imagine, and thanks to the bleeding hearts of soft liberal Massachusetts judges – he just keep racking em’ up.
Here are some highlights:
2007 – Disorderly conduct and disturbing the peace:
“A city man landed in Taunton District Court Thursday after an alleged verbal tirade at a McDonald’s children’s playland prompted police to charge him with disorderly conduct and disturbing the peace.
Around noon Sunday, Derek Lindsay, 34, of County Street, and his child, were at the crowded fast food restaurant, where Ronald McDonald and Shrek clowns were making balloon animals and entertaining a large group of kids.
The verbal outburst started at the playground area, where another man overheard Lindsay telling his child to push other kids out of the way, police said. The man told police that after Lindsay’s child shoved his kid, he walked up to Lindsay and asked him to tell his child to stop pushing.
At this point, Lindsay began shouting and swearing, challenging the other father to a fight, witnesses said, according to police reports.
Police showed up soon after someone in the restaurant called 911. A restaurant patron pointed to a white SUV in the parking lot and said Lindsay was inside, police said. Police stopped the car and began questioning Lindsay.
“As we continued to attempt questioning of the incident, Mr. Lindsay assumed a fighting stance with fists clenched, at which time Mr. Lindsay was placed in handcuffs for our protection as well as his,” Patrolman Matthew Skwarto III wrote in his incident report.”
2009 – Attempted murder, two counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, a knife, and intimidating a witness:
“Police said Lindsay attacked a Middleboro man at Pushing Ink, 155 Center St., on Tuesday night.
Also arrested in the incident was David Keedwell, 29, of 15 East Grove St., who was arraigned on a charge of assault and battery with a shod foot and held on $2,500 bail.
Lt. Peter J. Andrade said Keedwell was kicking the victim while Lindsay stabbed him.
The witness intimidation charge against Lindsay came after he threatened patrons in the tattoo parlor, saying he would kill anyone who talked to police, Andrade said. Police found four knives and $4,000 in cash on Lindsay after his arrest.
Officer Steven M. Schofield, the prosecuting officer, said that if Lindsay is convicted on the attempted murder charge he faces 10 years in jail.
Lindsay previously was arrested in January 2008 after Plymouth police said he taunted fighters and their coaches at Memorial Hall and fought with officers as they tried to escort him from the building.”
2009 – assault and battery, disorderly conduct, threatening to commit a crime; drug and gun charges:
“Derek M. Lindsay, 36, of 671 County St., Apt. 3, Taunton, is charged with assault and battery, disorderly conduct and threatening to commit a crime after an off-duty police officer reported seeing him spit on a young girl in Middleboro on June 4.
Plymouth County Assistant District Attorney Catherine Ham asked for bail to be set at $100,000.
Lindsay originally was to have appeared Tuesday in Wareham District Court for a probable cause hearing on attempted-murder charges stemming from the March 17 stabbing of a man in a Middleboro tattoo parlor. That hearing was postponed until July 21, according to Bridget Norton Middleton, spokeswoman for Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy Cruz.
At Tuesday’s arraignment, Ham recapped Lindsay’s criminal record, which includes five restraining orders, 18 defaults, 22 arrest warrants and seven probation violations.
Taunton police added June 12 after serving Lindsay a warrant for the June 4 incident in Middleboro.”
So first, daddy dickwasher packs up the kids and teaches them the proper way to incite a balloon animal Mcbeatdown. Because all of the warmest and most cherish childhood memories involve balloon animals, verbal altercations with strangers, and high cholesterol on a bun. Then he tries to stab a man to death at a tattoo parlor and attempts to threaten the patrons into silence. Not to be outdone, he then starts spitting on young girls in public, with some guns and drugs thrown in for good measure, and then gets out and starts lighting fires, to make up a full Rachel Rollins BINGO. Seems legit. Here in Massachusetts, it’s crime and no punishment, because public safety is simply not as important as the feelings of chodestranglers like this.
Yeah, definitely not.
