My post here about “Cop-Free Safe Zones” a while back got me called a “blatant racist.” I can’t wait to see what this one gets me.
Today’s tale of being blind to the crime issues in this country for the sake of an “Emperor’s New Clothes”-level of oblivious takes us to a place on the other side of the country from the greater Woo-tropolitan area.
BART is an acronym for “Bay Are Rapid Transit.” But given what is happening today, it might as well stand for “Bastards Armed-Robbing Travelers.”
BART is one of several public transit systems in the greater San Francisco area. Lately, BART has been plagued with robberies, and in response to that, BART’s management has decided that avoiding any semblance of “racial bias” is much more important than the safety of it’s riders. In what has to be one of the great moments in the history of bureaucratic stupidity, BART just completed a massive project to blanket it’s system with surveillance camera, only to decide releasing video of the commission of crimes would create “high level of racially insensitive commentary.”
First, let’s walk through some of the higher-profile incidents in this situation.
April 22: Forty to sixty kids boarded a train at the Coliseum stop and robbed seven passengers, beating up two;
June 28: A group of four kids assaulted a passenger and made off with a cell phone at Dublin; and
June 30: A woman on a train with about a dozen teenagers had her phone snatched by one them before the group got off at the Coliseum stop. Thankfully, a good Samaritan was on hand to retrieve the phone.
So far, BART has refused to turn over surveillance video for any of these incidents.
Let’s just jump to the obvious question. Why the hell would BART spend the time and money to install cameras if they won’t use the video? If I were to hazard a guess, I’d bet the cameras were intended to give riders a sense of security on a transit system which is experiencing a simultaneous rise in crime and drop in ridership.
But if that’s the case, why would BART do something which completely shatters that sense of security?
The answer is as simple as it is troubling. BART would rather risk the safety of it’s riders rather than “promote stereotypes.” Welcome to “Politically Correct America,” where the safety and protection of the property of the people who go to work every day and pay for this country matters less than “stereotypes.”
The funniest part of this is that the deluded do-gooders at BART think that by not telling us who the criminals on their trains are means we will have no idea who they are. This is roughly equivalent to the mentality of parent who spell words out in front of their kids in a quickly-becomes-Quixotic exercise in futility because all it does is accelerate the kid’s ability to spell.
BART thinks that by not releasing video, we won’t know who the criminals are. It’s like they think we never heard of the process of elimination. Since we know these are mob-style attacks, and since we know that when left to their own devices, people tend to be homogeneous in their associations, we can use logic to figure out about whom we aren’t talking. If you haven’t figured it out by now, this is the part that’s going to get me called names.
- We know they aren’t Mexicans, because if they were, BART’s refusal to use the camera footage in question would include some nonsense about San Francisco being a “sanctuary city.”
- We know they aren’t white, otherwise the media would have gone out of their way to find a minority victim so this could all be assigned to the dustbin of racism.
- We know they aren’t Asians because frankly, when’s the last time that’s happened in this country?
- We know they aren’t Eskimos, because the BART line isn’t 8,500 miles long allowing for a stop in Nunavut.
- We know they aren’t Russian since we have yet to build the world’s first trans-oceanic subway.
- We know they aren’t Muslim, otherwise the media would be finding ways to completely disassociate them from anything they might have done.
Speaking of complete disassociation…remember the process of elimination? This discussion has done a lot of eliminating, which begs the question “Who’s left?”
If the rationale is not to create a “high level of racially insensitive commentary,” then who is BART protecting? Could it be a group of people whose lives matter so much we can’t even be bothered to mention them in relation to crimes they may commit? Could it be a group of people who “political correctness” dictates we don’t dare mention they are being slaughtered in American inner-cities like Chicago and Baltimore because that might mean addressing that crime problem nobody wants to touch?
You be the judge. I won’t be allowed to as simply raising this question will get me labeled as a racist. But I still want to know who BART thinks they are kidding.
More importantly, I want to know WHY they feel the need for such subterfuge?
The problem is I’m afraid I know the answer. This is the classic “nothing to see here” mentality the New America Left manifests any time it is confronted with it’s failures. In this case, they are desperate to hide the fact that black crime may very well be the largest cultural problem we face in this country today.
It is statistically demonstrable and wholly undeniable. Black males comprise roughly 6% of the population of this country, but commit 50% of the murders and robberies in America. Even Hillary Clinton herself once used the term “super-predators” in reference to this issue. If you follow that link, you see a story about last year’s Candidate Hillary backing off that statement and the Washington Post calling it “debunked.”
I’m not sure how they can simply dismiss the idea that blacks in America commit a disproportionate amount of violent crime in relation to their percentage of the population. The most recent complete year for which the FBI has compiled statistics bear that out.
What drives this message home is the people who will counter this argument with the shop-worn taunts of racism or worse yet, the construction of a “straw-man” argument which assigns blame to everybody but criminals and the failed liberal policy for dealing with criminals. The arguments are usually socio-economically based and generally use some complex if not convoluted pseudo-intellectual gymnastics to establish the idea that crime is a result of institutional racism, cultural disadvantage, or some other boogey-man upon which liberal failings can be wholly blamed.
Call me all the names you wish; construct even the cleverest of arguments telling me how wrong I am. Once you do that, answer this question for me: Why does your response to what I’m saying not include even the slightest concern FOR THE VICTIMS of all that crime.
Honestly, I don’t give a damn about whatever reason you’re going to give me why black crime exists in the quantity that it does. I am far more concerned with the fact that over 90% of the victims of those murders and robberies committed by blacks are also blacks. That means when you ignore this situation like BART is doing or when you building yet another argument deflecting the responsibility for this problem away from where it belongs, you are both enabling and defending a situation in which blacks in America are falling victim to violent crime at a rate so disproportionate it’s creating a refugee problem.
And when you’re done calling me names or denying what I’m saying, try to tell me about how much you care about the plight of black people in America.
