WBZ: A Wheaton College student and resident advisor has been arrested and charged in connection with several suspicious dorm fires at the school. Janelys Pimental, 22, was arraigned in Attleboro District Court on Thursday and held without bail. There have been six fires in the McIntire Residence Hall since late November. The most recent small fire was found in a water fountain in a third-floor common area and put out around 3:30 a.m. Thursday. No one has been hurt. The other fires were set in bathroom trash cans and the laundry room late at night. Police say Pimental was caught on hidden cameras that were installed last December.
“I appreciate how disturbing these incidents have been,” Dean of Students Kate McCaffrey wrote in a letter to students. “While no one was hurt, and only minimal damage was sustained, these incidents were disruptive—particularly to the residents of McIntire—and they represented a threat to the safety and security of our campus community.”
Pimental faces two counts of arson, four counts of “wantonly injuring real and personal property” and six counts of vandalism. Police said they made the arrest “based on a number of factors including statements made by the suspect.”
Quick look at her thought process:
That girl is on fire!!
Seriously, who the hell was giving her advice? Jim Morrison? Johnny Cash? Who’s gonna be her lawyer? Billy Joel?
She didn’t start the fire
She was there for learning
Ain’t got time for burning
She didn’t start the fire
She might have a fupa
But she’s really super
Never would’ve pegged this chick as an arsonist. Based on her Facebook page I would’ve guessed fake hate crimes were definitely in her arsenal though.
That might be your motivation right there. One too many cultural appropriations from the wypipo on campus. I guess sometimes you just have to burn shit. Ya know, like your future and your dreams.
She was about 3 months away from graduating, and was likely getting free room and board because she’s an RA. How would you like to be a kid on her floor that got written up for something? And to top it all off she was a psych major too.
Anyway, her Facebook page is pretty wide open because she’s being held without bail, and it’s turned into a war between regular people who saw her on the news, and the dindu nuffin patrol defending her honor.
Yea, what makes you think you have the right to come on her page? Just because someone is on the news for starting multiple fires and has a wide open social media account doesn’t give you the right to violate her safe space!
Anyone who makes fire jokes is getting reported to their school for racism!
Because….give me some time and I’ll figure out how this one is racist.
Gina and others were not happy about the face that people have opinions.
First of all, how dare you? Second of all, what gives you the right? Spread fire, not hate. And if you do spread “hate” by commenting on a criminal’s Facebook page then Gina is gonna call the cops on you. The real cops AND the Facebook cops.
Hate speech is not covered by free speech!
Trust Gina. She’s a legal expert.
Apparently the only people who care about arson are old white people.
It’s true. Wypipo are the only people who watch the news. Everyone knows that.
Plus, you’re not allowed to “bully” people who are younger than you, even if they’re on the news for being a serial arsonist.
Pressing buttons on Facebook is creepy!
Posting on a criminal’s Facebook page is essentially the same thing as arson itself.
Finally the fam jumped in:
“She has no mental issues, nor has she shown signs of any.”
So she never burned down Thanksgiving dinner. Good to know.
Also, it’s the fault of the media for reporting an arrest for a crime that the police have been investigating for months now. It’s not like they caught her on tape and she confessed or anything like that. She’s innocent because someone else with a Facebook page is related to her.
In fairness she probably does need a psych eval because she’s obviously got a few screws loose. But that doesn’t change the fact that she started a bunch of fires in a dorm that she partly in charge of and could’ve gotten someone killed. When that happens you don’t get to play the victim when people “harass” your Facebook page.
