TurtlegramThe City Council has offered City Manager Edward M. Augustus Jr. a three-year contract extension that would keep him on as the city’s chief executive through Oct. 3, 2020. When the council emerged from the closed-door meeting, Mayor Joseph M. Petty announced that the council had voted 9-2 to offer Mr. Augustus a contract extension, even though he still has one year remaining on his current employment contract. Councilors-at-Large Michael T. Gaffney and Konstantina B. Lukes voted in opposition.

Mr. Petty said Mr. Augustus will receive 2 percent raises in each year of the contract extension, similar to the 2 percent annual raises called for in his current contract, which expires Oct. 3, 2017. The mayor said one change to the contract is that the council has agreed to give the city manager an additional five vacation days. Mr. Augustus currently receives 20 vacation days per year; under the contract extension he will have 25 days each year.

“It was an easy contract to negotiate,” Mr. Petty said in an interview after the council meeting. “The manager did not come into this asking for big changes. It’s basically the same contract he has now with the exception of the additional five vacation days. The timing is perfect for this and it sends a message to the community that there is going to be consistency and stability in the leadership at City Hall for several more years,” the mayor added. “Ed has worked hard and done a very good job for this city and its residents. I have received a very good response from the community about the job he has done since becoming city manager. This (contract extension) is something that is well deserved.”

In addition to his regular salary, Mr. Augustus receives $38,400 in other forms of compensation. That includes a $3,000 annual stipend for disability insurance; a $3,000 annual stipend for life insurance; a $13,200 annual stipend for personal auto use in lieu of tracking business mileage; an estimated $1,200 worth of city-supplied fuel; and an $18,000 annual deferred compensation payment.

When the manager’s salary, buyback benefits and other forms of compensation are included, his total compensation for the final year of his current contract, which began Tuesday, is $250,126. Over the course of the contract extension, Mr. Augustus’ total compensation package will increase to $252,783 during the first year, $257,891 during the second year and $262,265 during the third and final year (2019-2020).

This is why Worcester can’t have nice things. This is why people are fleeing Worcester for the suburbs. Because they reward incompetence. Seriously what planet am I on? Ed Augustus redefines sub-par. Too many fuck ups to list in this blog, so if you wanna read them all then read this:

Do Any City Councilors Have The Minerals To Give Ed Augustus The Performance Review He Deserves On Tuesday Night?

Of course the thing that sticks out most is that Worcester’s roads last winter (when it hardly ever snowed) were an abortion.

12463948_1664909287125681_2008423562_n

12442812_1664909390459004_469533556_n

The head of the DPW who forgot to plow every time it snowed, was appointed by Ed Augustus and still has his job. Because this is what is acceptable to Fast Eddie.

But to me the most fucked up part about this is that the Worcester Firefighters haven’t gotten a new contract in 4 or 5 years now. How is getting Ed Augustus a new contract more important than getting a contract to the people who risk their lives and save people from dying on a daily basis? Just an FYI, the firefighters offer for a new contract was rejected by the city and this matter is going to arbitration. It’s well known that the contract they’re going to receive from an arbiter is gong to pay them significantly more than their original offer. So basically Ed Augustus cost the city millions of dollars a year by trying to fuck over our first responders. Good thing he’s getting a new contract with a raise.

And last winter a firetruck crashed into someone’s lawn because Ed’s boy Paul Moosey forgot to plow the snow.

12436103_1664909643792312_1460500533_n

City Councilors Mo Bergman, Kate Toomey, Tony Economou, George Russell, Candy Carlson, Khrystian King, Gary Rosen, Sarai Rivera, and Joe Petty looked at this picture and said, “this is acceptable.” Not only is it good enough, but we’re also going to give you a big raise, more paid vacation days, and a perfect evaluationSure, your contract isn’t even set to expire until October 3 of 2017, but we need to make sure we give you this brand new contract now before some other city steals Ed Augustus away from us.

Because what burgeoning municipality isn’t looking for a McGovern Crime Family capo who will make secret deals to sell park land, wasted $150,000 to search for a chief diversity officer because he refuses to hire anybody who isn’t white and male, and tows 300 people’s cars after instituting a parking ban at 1:02 AM (and has the taxpayers pay for the towing fees).

Normally you offer a contract like this to someone you fear might leave. For instance, it’s always good for the Patriots to make sure Tom Brady’s contract is taken care of well before it expires, because every team in the NFL would like Tom Brady on their team. But who the hell would EVER want Ed Augustus running their city? He has this job because he’s Worcester born and raised. He’s been a part of the McGovern machine since his early 20’s. He has no value outside of Worcester, but yet we’re giving him a huge raise and all these perks when we don’t have to right now. Because that makes TONS of sense.

4a68d-48251-join-revolution-like-turtleboy-sports-banner

So why are they doing this? Simple – they’re trying to do it at a time when people are too distracted with Trump and Hillary to notice. And it worked perfectly. If they waited until the contract was closer to expiring then this would be an issue for the 2017 City Council election. And they KNOW that they would NEVER be able to convince the voters that Ed Augustus was doing a good job. They also know that Gaffney would run his campaign around NOT giving him a new contract, so they had to make sure that they hooked up their boy before Gaffney starts putting up yard signs again.

Of course Ed Augustus and Paul Moosey wouldn’t know what it’s like to drive on the roads in Worcester because neither of them lives here. Paul Moosey lives in Sturbridge, and Ed Augustus lives in Millis:

Another rich, white politician who talks a big game about embracing people of color but purposely lives in a faraway town so he doesn’t have to live around them. Racist Eddie doing racist Eddie things.

This quote from Jumpin Joe Petty says it all:

“It was an easy contract to negotiate.”

Yea, no shit. Generally when you give someone a raise and a bunch of extra vacation days they take the offer. Way to play hardball with your best friend Joe.

Then there’s this quote:

“The timing is perfect for this and it sends a message to the community that there is going to be consistency and stability in the leadership at City Hall for several more years”

Yup, the timing is perfect. Because everyone’s too busy talking about Trump’s tax returns to notice that they slipped this one in there. Love how he uses the words “consistency and stability” too. In other words, the same people who have been running our city while it turns to shit for the last 10 years will continue to make sure that they’ll never miss a ribbon cutting or a chance to build a new hotel. “Stability and consistency” really just means that high ranking members of the McGovern Crime Family get jobs for life.

screen-shot-2016-10-05-at-2-20-33-pm

Then there’s this bullshit:

“I have received a very good response from the community about the job he has done since becoming city manager.”

Wait…..what?? No you haven’t. That’s because the only people in your “community” are your honky friends from Salisbury Street. You’re not talking to people living on lower Chandler Street or Belmont Hill or Main South who have slowly watched their neighborhoods become a junkie’s paradise.

It’s just mind boggling, infuriating, and a slap in the face to the working class people of Worcester. This schmuck is making OVER a quarter million dollars a year. That’s INSANE!!! If any of us did our jobs as poorly as him we’d all be fired. But since he’s friends with the right people he gets a raise. Welcome to Worcester.

I can’t help but look back at this article from Masslive and laugh out loud at this part:

“Augustus, who is now director of government and community relations at Holy Cross, will not be considered for the permanent post after his nine-month contract is up. Mayor Joseph Petty said Augustus wasn’t interested in the role. The appointment is short term, though Augustus will not be the “acting” city manager. Instead, he will be given a regular contract for up to nine months, in order to avoid a city rule that requires an acting city manager to be someone who already works in city hall.”

screen-shot-2016-10-05-at-2-17-56-pm

Augustus “wasn’t interested in the role.” Just keeping the seat warm until they find a permanent City Manager. What an absolute LYING crock of shit he turned out to be. This job was never intended to be temporary. They got their boy in there and they went around the rules that required an acting city manager to have worked in City Hall, because they know everyone would raise their eyebrows if they thought he was given the job permanently. But in reality they had this planned the whole time. Jim McGovern’s campaign manager would be appointed by Jim McGovern’s coffee bitch (Petty) to run Jim McGovern’s city. Then he’d cut a few ribbons, they’d hype him up, and the lemmings on the City Council would fall in line and give him a new contract.

We expected nothing less from Petty and Rivera. Same can be said for King, Economou, Russell, and Carlson. They’ve sucked since day one too. We all know how useless they are. But Mo Bergman and Kate Toomey are two that we need to get out of there next November. They finished in 4th and 5th place, right ahead of King. Those are the three weak ones that we need to get rid of. Bergman, King, Toomey. It’s doable. We can take back the City Council one by one. We have a great candidate named Justin Sleeper who is gonna be running in 2017, but we need more people to step up and take their city back from these crooks. Who wants in?

Every large company has been doing away a fifth week vacation for years. Lost mine about 5 years ago. No grandfather clause either. Only goes to show you have to be a government hack to get nice things.

Wow, I love it when Christmas comes early! I can now buy all kinds of pretty presents for my special man friends. The key to great performance evaluations? Sit through those boring meetings with these Worcester losers while nursing a hangover after a night of man-partying. It looks like I’m thinking deep thoughts. Thanks again, suckers.

Hey TB you screwed up on Bergman. He was the ONLyY city councilor who actually read the budget. He cougent a gaping tax error in residential apartments. Seriously, he is the only city councilor who does his homework and you want him out?!

Why? To run another useless hack who just grandstands at meetings with no study behind it? Yeah. That ought a work out great. The junkies will love it.

…meanwhile Worcester Public Schools custodians got an offer for a ONE year contract (instead of 3,) a 2% raise, and increased health insurance costs. NO $3,000 annual stipend for disability insurance; NO $3,000 annual stipend for life insurance; NO $13,200 annual stipend for personal auto use; NO estimated $1,200 worth of city-supplied fuel; and NO $18,000 annual deferred compensation payment. NEXT UP….Teachers, Instructional Assistants, Bus Drivers, etc. WHAT WILL THEY GET? SHIT! And they now want to offer the teachers a 1 year contract instead of adhering to a past practice of 3 years. Roger Nugent, you better be ON YOUR GAME!

Hey, Petty, you big duffus with the popcorn kernel for a head: WPS contracts would be easy to negotiate TOO….IF YOU BOTHERED TO SHOW UP AT THE NEGOTIATION TABLE!

Caesar lives in Millis? I thought that city ordinance requires the City Manager and School Supt. be city residents? When did the City Council change this ordinance?

I remember back in the spring when you showed a picture of trash all over Chandler St. (on the West Side), attributing it to the small recycling bins. Many other cities are instituting the tall bins for that purpose: so the streets aren’t filled with debris! Some have a blue bin for trash and a green bin for recycling. Often times any type of trash bag can be placed in the blue bin; NO MORE YELLOW BAGS! It’s a lot cheaper for the residents to pay for a trash bin once than buying yellow bags every week, and for the City to use to tall recycle bins to curb on debris cleanup by the DPW.

What discourages me about Worcester in general is the City Charter and Plan E form of gov’t. If Worcester went back to the strong mayor format then more people might show up to vote in municipal elections. Worcester isn’t a democracy or a republic: it’s an empire!

If the West Side can easily be full of debris then no one will ever buy here. There are some good homes and nice areas near the town lines but they’re unfortunately in the wrong city if you have kids!

They keep the $/bags so that they can keep at least a driver and a bagger on the trash trucks. Job security for the union hacks and at least two votes for the Democrat masters. City also makes way more money on the bags than if you had barrels.

Like all liberal government programs – it’s about power and money for the city, the unions, the state, and the feds. It’s not about providing a gov. service that in most states is included in your property taxes and so, can be taken as a tax deduction when you itemize.

If people spent a year in the more citizen friendly states they would realize what an ass raping they are getting living in this Democrat controlled totalitarian oligarchy. Baker’s been a complete joke. He handed AG Healy the next governorship by failing to reel in her unlawful and totally political usurpation of the Constitution and the Legislature with her creating new laws banning previously legal rifles.

Can’t wait to leave some day and let the libs continue to eat where they shit.

So now we have a City Manager who lives in Millis, but gets around the residency requirement by ‘leasing’ a condo in Main South. The City’s Chief of Economic Development lives out of town, and the CFO lives in Auburn. The Assistant City Manager lives in Boylston. Who, then, pray tell, is invested in the City? I really do believe that with all their is to do here; all of the dives, all of the diversity, all of the colleges and universities, that Worcester could be an AMAZING city…if only it would get out of its own way.

Hey remember a couple of years ago when it was leaked that the CFO of Chicago threw his name in the ring for the City Manager job here in Worcester, but the Council wouldn’t even give him an interview? Ha. The process was designed all along to get Ed this job. No doubt about it.

Thanks for reading my rant. I do care about this city-and I’m assuming most people that read this blog do. That said, I’m a little bit ashamed about our leadership situation. At least Phil Palmieri is gone.
