Because we like to keep turtle riders updated about what’s going on with our website, we are canceling Facebook Live tonight, and we’re gonna have a Q&A at halftime of the Celtics game instead. Well, that and the fact that there hasn’t been much material the last couple of days, and we’ve been dealing nonstop with whiny naniburgers who are temporarily inconvenienced by a free website. Basically we need to rant about why these people suck, what we’re doing to fix the problem, and what you can do in the meantime to make your turtle riding experience more enjoyable. So tune in at halftime of the Celtics game and feel free to ask us anything.

In the meantime, here is an email we just received from our ad network:

Dear Turtleboy,

Our team made some changes this morning to tighten up the ranges that providers can bid on ad space within. We’ve historically found that these bits of rogue redirect code are passed through ad code with lower value ads– the people that are writing this type of code obviously want as many people redirected as they can via the cheapest routes. So we bumped the floors for all providers up, and will pass all remaining impressions to AdSense.
Unfortunately this isn’t something your web developer would be able to solve. We have a lot of in-depth tracking and recording going on, and once a redirect happens, we’re able to get a log of it (through a file called a .HAR file) and send it to our ad providers and they can get the specific campaign blocked. Also unfortunately, for whatever reason, your site is getting hit with multiple campaigns right now. The most frustrating thing is that the redirect code is getting not only through our providers filters, but Google’s as well. Every impression runs through Google’s server, which has very complicated filters to catch this type of thing, but the programmers are able to circumvent the filters.
Screen Shot 2017-03-31 at 2.17.19 PM
So, with all of that said, we’re hopeful that the changes this morning will help. It’s a fine line– we don’t want to raise floors so aggressively that you’re going to miss out on a ton of revenue, but obviously we want to do whatever we can to lessen & get rid of redirects. It also can be tricky when it’s difficult to gauge how our changes are affecting the frequency of them. So if you can do your best over the next day to see if frequency is dropping and let us know what you’re seeing, that would be super helpful. If it seems to be working, we can keep this strategy going and slowly ratchet it up. If it seems like there’s no change at all, we have a few other experiments to run. I mean, we’ll still run them, but one test at a time is the best way to go.
So keep us posted how things seem– whether it be an increase, decrease, or no change. And then we’ll adjust accordingly.

I have no idea what most of that means and we’re setting up a conference call to figure this out. But as you can see, they made some changes this morning that they think will help. A web developer wouldn’t be able to fix anything, as the issue is all on their end. But once again, without them the blog wouldn’t be able to exist. That’s what these dumb shit mother fuckers haven’t figured out. It costs money to keep this site together. They pay money. So unless you wanna buy a t-shirt for the whole fam, shut the fuck up and wait patiently for the issue to be resolved. And please let us know if the site is functioning better. They aren’t getting the redirects when they go to the site, which might mean that the issue is geographical since they’re based out of Utah. But we just wanted to let you know that we are working on it every day, as are they. Because we hate this just as much as you do.

We urge you to support the Turtleboy Sponsors by doing business with them. Without them none of this is possible. Click on any of them to check out their sites or Facebook pages.

Hi, there. Poo here. Had a little bit of trouble using the factory browser on my ghetto Android Straight Talk phone (LG Destiny), but no trouble since switching to Chrome as the default browser. The problem is still on y’all’s end, but it doesn’t make it to me.

As of this morning (Thursday), I’m no longer getting any popups, and I did nothing on my end. Thanks for resolving this.

What is the point of a “free blog” if you can’t even read it most of the time? It’s not just Facebook that’s affected, it’s Chrome, safari, Android, iPhone, iPad, doesn’t matter how you try, or what device 90% it won’t work. I’m sure you noticed your subscriptions have dropped by several thousand last time I checked. I haven’t bailed yet because I love this site and hope it will be fixed soon.

Things seem better through the Facebook app today. Not a single redirect. I usually get redirected multiple times. Good luck!

Sites just a fucking joke in general. Beyond obnoxious that you have to scroll halfway down page before even beginning an article and close out 5 different ads at bottom of page. 90% ads, 10% content. And newsflash you condescending fuck up in your ivory tower, there a million comparable (use that term very loosely) websites just like this one and they are all free. Zero of them, however, mirror this abortion of presentation.

I always go directly to the site from a google browser on my desktop. I’ve never had a problem before. Now, when I go to close an ad (small ads that creep onto your pics), another tab pops open which I close right away. That never used to happen.

Even if I don’t close an ad, if I go from a different tab or platform & click back onto your page (not clicking onto anything particular – just redirecting the mouse so that I can scroll), it opens a new tab with which I assume is an ad.

Whatever you are using to code your site is impacted with some sort of malicious code. If you can’t figure out how to fix it you probably need to hire some to take a look and help you. I’ve unliked your FB pages mainly because when I open any of the posts on my iPad it automatically redirects to a malicious page that tells me the iPad is infected and won’t let me out. On my MS laptop it opens a malicious 2nd tab.

I clicked today because a friend shared something from your site on FB that I was interested in reading. The popups and malicious risks are so bad I probably won’t be repeating a visit.

I never had a problem with the pop ups until about a week ago . Now the site is completely unreadable. In Facebook, out of Facebook, on the phone, on the computer , it doesn’t matter . I’ve waited for it to fully load before scrolling as suggested, cleared history/cookies, etc. Nothing has helped, literally can’t click on a thing on the site. Seems even worse today. Not “bitching & complaining” just passing my on info as you asked!

I haven’t attempted to load the site on my iPhone for the past two days due to the pop up BS, but I use Chrome at work and all I did was add “Popup Blocker Pro” from the Chrome store, it was free and took 5 seconds to download.

I have a Mac at home and I found that if I clear my browser history before going to the site then I don’t have any problems.

I agree that the pop ups and re-directs are fucking obnoxious and potentially dangerous malware, but there are a couple easy fixes to try before you make a grand exit announcement, flip your hair, and flounce out like 5 year old girls.

For the past few days I’ve noticed that the popups try to get me to download free software, which I don’t want. It’s sometimes difficult to close the window down. You have to be really careful that you don’t inadvertently download the software. I really like this website, but if this continues, I will be forced to stop using it. Sorry, but that’s how I feel.

I don’t use facebook, but now, my McAfee is capturing the popup and labeling it as being unsafe, which is better than trying to have me download something. I don’t know enough about it, but as a previous poster stated, there is probably some type of malware out there that is causing this. Hope it gets resolved.

Perhaps someone who doesn’t like Turtleboy is creating this problem.

Do you want to hear from us or not, assholes? When we comment, you tell us to “shut the fuck up,” but then turn around with this stupid smiles and sunshine bullshit and tell us to “please let us know if the site is functioning better.” Guess what? It’s NOT, but I’m done being insulted. Who wants to read your stupid bullshit about people you think are losers? That’s the only “news” you seem to have most of the time anyway unless you hijack Masslive.

I don’t know what everyone is complaining about. I’ve won at least 50 iphones over the past week. If my luck keeps up, I’ll be able to sell them and take an early retirement.

Hey Turtleboy, I hear what you’re saying about the ads. But your website has malicious code on it that the ad servers can’t help you with. Just clicking in this message box brought up a re-direct. Clicking on the logo brings up a re-direct. Clicking on the article title brings up a re-direct. These are things that are embedded into your site itself. I just want to bring this to your attention because you seem to think it’s only the ads doing it. I would go looking in your website files for anything that was added in the last few days. Especially look in a folder called “includes” — that is often where they hide malicious code because it’s easy to hack. Then go and lock down all of your folders to “read-only” except for wherever your articles go. I don’t know exactly how your site works, but hopefully this will help at least give some ideas. If you find something that looks odd, save off a copy and then delete it. Malicious code isn’t usually too hard to spot. Good luck!

Same here. I use Chrome and go directly to the website. I can’t click ANYWHERE on the page without getting an add for some Chrome app BS that won’t close.

I get you can’t control all your ad stuff, but this seems to be the website itself.

And no, I don’t do Fakebook. That’s for cat ladies and narcissists who generally have low self esteem.

I downloaded a free pop up blocker on Chrome this morning and the site is now functioning perfectly. Prior to that I was getting re-directed every 10 seconds or so. Free and easy fix!

PS: Ad network dude said “ratchet.” Tee hee.

Got redirected to sites wanting me to install a Flash update! Yeah, I’ll click on that as quickly as I would stick my dick in “the guttermuppet”!!!

I’ve been getting the flash update pop ups too, and i don’t use Facebook at all. Turtletits is the one that needs to shut the fuck up and quit his bitching and get him and his staff back to writing stories and entertaining us. Ain’t no one gonna pay to read this shit so do more promoting your site, give t shirts away for free and get more local businesses involved. Get noticed more and talked about on week and 98.5. You should be thankful that your turtle riders care enough to inform you of the problems encountered getting onto your site instead of saying fuck this and forget about tbs forever. Now get your fucking asses back to work

Just for FYI and I have not read any comments yet…but it’s way worse. I got redirected 4 times within 30-45 seconds each time and had to leave Facebook to read the post on the website.
Usually it only effects me occasionally. Like 1 out of 4 clicks to your website were redirected in the past. Today is crazy

It is way worse, you can knock loyal patrons for complaining, but this is ridiculous, I never seen anything like it. Beyond annoying. Done for the day dealing with this.
