Smut Peddling Fox Cancels Ads On WEEI Over Kirk Minihane’s Factual Comments About Erin Andrews, Gets Him Suspended

Free speech is officially dead in America. Well, I guess that’s not totally true. You can still express whatever opinion you want…..as long as it coincides with a politically correct agenda that completely ignores reality.

WEEI caved yesterday and suspended Kirk Minihane for seven days. You may recall that Minhihane called Erin Andrews a “gutless bitch” following her terrible interview with Adam Wainwright in which she flirted with him and didn’t ask any real questions. A week later he “apologized” by saying that he was sorry for calling her a beyoch, but that if she were 15 pounds heavier she’d be a waitress at Perkins. This is when the PC crowd officially lost their shit.

You can’t say that!!! Is it true? Well, yea, but that’s not the point!!! You can’t say that, because Deadspin said that you can’t say that. Doesn’t matter if what he said is true or not. You have the option of being politically correct or saying nothing at all.

WEEI had no problem with this and did not take any disciplinary action. Good for them. Then NESN announced they will no longer be simulcasting the Dennis and Callahan show in the morning. Because we all know that NESN would NEVER hire a reporter based on her looks. Right Jenny Dell and Jamie Erdahl?

Jenny-hanging-with-some-friends-just-moments-before-the-greatest-pillow-fight-of-all-time.-1 hr_fox_sports62_a_l-1024x576

Obviously those were the most qualified applicants. Obviously. Oh yea, and NESN really has a strong moral leg to stand on too. Sure every Boston Red Sox game features Jerry Remy, the man who enabled his monster of a son his entire life, which culminated with the murder of Jennifer Martel. NESN might look past this, but they draw the line at free speech that every rational person agrees with.

What else did NESN bring to the Red Sox? Oh yea, Sox Appeal. Remember that show? A couple went on a date at a Red Sox game and wouldn’t watch any of the game itself. They even named the show so it would sound like “Sex Appeal.” Because after all, girls don’t go to Fenway Park to watch the game. But now all of a sudden they’re drawing the line when someone points out that Fox hired Erin Andrews specifically because of sex appeal? Way to be consistent dooshnozzles.

Well yesterday Fox Sports decided to pull all of it’s advertising from anything affiliated with WEEI. Here’s the rationale from Fox Sports President Eric Shanks:

“By now you are no doubt aware of the incidents that occurred on-air at your Boston station WEEI on July 15 and again on July 22. I am referring to the obnoxious comments made by Kirk Minihane on the “Dennis and Callahan” show regarding one of our Fox on-air personalities, Erin Andrews. “As we have previously stated to various media outlets, the comments made by Mr. Minihane were boorish and sexist. Further, the “apology: made by Mr. Minihane was juvenile and insincere. To make matters worse, the “apology” was posted under a banner (allegedly approved by your Boston VP and Market Manager, Phil Zachary) hailing ‘The Triumphant Return of Kirk Minihane.’ “I had hoped by this time we might hear a sincere apology from WEEI, or perhaps someone from your office might have reached out to Fox (which through our film and television businesses is a significant advertiser on Entercom stations). However, none of that has been forthcoming, and needless to say we are disappointed. “I have discussed this issue with our senior management and our various senior marketing executives. At their recommendation, I am writing to inform you that going forward Fox’s entertainment and sports businesses will not be advertising on your stations for the foreseeable future.”

Where to start with one? How bout that there was obviously nothing sexist about what Minihane said. Erin Andrews would not be hired if she were fat. That’s a scientific, indisputable fact of nature. Show me a Fox Sports sideline reporter who is fat and female. Oh wait, Eric Shanks can’t do that because he doesn’t employ any? Yea, there’s nothing blatantly sexist about that only hiring eye candy like…

Hey nimrods – stop acting like you have some sort of moral high ground. You work for Fox. You guys invented smut. Let’s look at some of the shows Fox has aired over the year:

Celebrity Boxing. Because who wouldn’t wanna watch Tonya Harding beat the shit out of Paula Jones? One woman is famous for having thugs beat the shit out of Nancy Kerrigan. The other is famous because Bill Clinton showed her his wee-wee. Quality programming right there.

Battle of the Bods. Hot women take off all their clothes and guess how guys will rate their various body parts, including ass, boobs, and stomach. There is nothing demeaning about this towards women. Nothing at all.

battle-of-the-bods

I Wanna Marry Harry. This show embarrasses women who are dumb enough to believe the actor they are all fighting over is Prince Harry. It’s goal is to show that women are power hungry pieces of garbage that are only interested in men who can offer them fame and riches. Nothing sexist about that at all. Nothing original either, since they basically did this same exact thing ten years earlier with Joe Millionaire.

And who doesn’t think that programs such as Paradise Hotel 2, My Big Fat Obnoxious Fiance, Playing it Straight, The Simple Life, Married by America, and Mr. Personality were high quality reality TV shows?

Then there’s Family Guy, which most people would agree is one of the more hilarious shows in TV history. Why? Because Seth MacFarlane gives zero fucks about political correctness. Name one group that they haven’t made fun of on Family Guy. You can’t. That’s what makes it awesome. And yet despite the fact that MacFarlane made a series of jokes at the 2013 Oscars, including but not limited to boob jokes, anorexia jokes, “No homo” jokes, rape jokes, abuse jokes, slave jokes, and jew jokes, Fox hasn’t cancelled Family Guy. One joke in particular stands out:

“We’ve reached the point where Selma Hayek comes out and says things we don’t understand, but we don’t care because they’re so darn attractive.”

So let me get this straight. Fox won’t advertise on WEEI because Minihane suggested that Erin Andrews would not have her job if she wasn’t as attractive. But they have no problem with MacFarlane, who literally said that Hayek is a difficult to understand Mexican who is there for our own sexual stimulation. Got it.

You know what I grew up watching on Fox? Married with Children. That show helped millions of young boys just like me get through puberty. What wasn’t to like? Christina Applegate and all her friends wearing cocktail dresses. Al’s dissatisfaction with his wife’s cooking skills. Al’s frequent trips to the nudey bar. The many, many episodes where fat women were mocked. The fact that Al’s feminist neighbor was always the antagonist who you were supposed to hate.

That show was awesome because it didn’t follow the PC rules. That’s why it was on FOX!!! Fox was INVENTED for shows like that. Hell, some Michigan housewife named Terry Rekolta started a letter writing campaign to Fox advertisers to get that show off the air. But they didn’t because it was good for ratings.

That’s essentially what WEEI has gotten from all this Minihane shit – better ratings. Dennis and Callahan are a better alternative in the morning than Toucher and Rich because they are the only ones who aren’t afraid to say what many, many people are thinking. Those two carpetbaggers at the Sports Hub were hired to make 98.5 into WAAF. They try to fit in some sports talk in between inside jokes that they all laugh at, references to their favorite 1980’s rock bands, and whatever skit they came up with that day.

One of their segments is pretty funny – “Ask a Pinkat.” They go around at Fenway Park and interview female fans. The premise of the program is to paint a broad picture of female fans as dumb and unfamiliar with sports (ironically like them). But there’s nothing sexist about that right? Because they didn’t come out and SAY that they are doing this. But because Minihane actually pointed out that Erin Andrews is a dolt, he gets in trouble.

D&C is a good show because it’s the only show where you can hear actual sports talk, and unregulated thought. You don’t have to agree with them. They are far right. But at least they’re saying something authentic that many people are thinking. That in and of itself is refreshing. There is a reason that this is the only time slot in which WEEI’s rating have surpassed the Sports Hub’s in the last month.

But by suspending Minihane WEEI is making it clear that bowing to PC bullshit is their main priority. This is what I hate about the PC crowd. They believe in free speech, as long as everything you say fits their agenda. They’ve realized that by making lots of noise they can create a media that is boring and filled with cold takes. Well, unfortunately for them Fox Sports does not advertise on Turtleboy Sports, and we will continue to be brutally honest with our scorching hot takes.

Feel free to share your thoughts to keep the conversation going.

Freedom of speech can only be infringed on by the government, not a private company. Kirk is not being prosecuted, he’s being taken to task by people / entities with an eye towards their bottom lines. Much different than OMG FREEDOM OF SPEECH IS DEAD!!

Wow. This article is so off based and, frankly, dumb, it’s hard to know where to start. If you are truly a lawyer, you would know that the first amendment is inapplicable here. His EMPLOYER is suspending him based on something inappropriate he said on THEIR radio show. The first amendment doesn’t say you have the right to go saying anything you want in a workplace or in representation of an employer. Beyond that, if he had said Andrews was incompetent or that she didn’t merit her position, he would have been fine. He didn’t. He went beyond that where even HE knew he shouldn’t have gone. Want to know how Minihane REALLY feels this should be dealt with? Go read what he wrote should happen to Joe Hagerty after Hagerty’s bizarre on line ramblings from Montreal. Since Minihane was so clear what should happen, why isn’t he following his own advice here? Because he is an opportunistic hypocrite who mixes agenda driven score settling with alleged “writing.”

The Globe is also screaming for blood over this.

    The Globe.

You know – the paper that keeps Shaughnessy on the payroll.

That’s all that really needs to be said over that.

This selective “outrage” over this is one of the most sexist things I’ve ever witnessed. 1) Where were the panderers when Pam Oliver got ousted for this blonde bimbo? You want to see a real female reporter; watch Jackie Mac.
    2) Hear anyone defending Alexi Lalas? Kirk wanted him to wander into the rain forest and get eaten by an Anaconda. No, not one sentence complaining about that, but for some reason everyone feels the need to come to the rescue of poor innocent Erin Andrews, like knights of the round table. Entercom is being run by a bunch of pussies.

To bad you are missing the point behind the suspension. First off, Fox isn’t complaining over the weight comment. They are pissed about the “b*tch” comment and nothing was done over that. It is completely fair to questing Erin Andrews ability, but he went over the line. Then when he “apologizes”, he takes a back handed comment, basically sending the message that the apology was tongue-in-cheek.

So what do you expect Fox to do? Sit back and do nothing or defend their employee? WEEI should of suspended him right away. Now they not only cost their own station, but they lost revenue for all of Entercomms stations.

Kirk is lucky to still have a job.

I would expect Fox to either hire an qualified reporter or accept the fact that people criticize their incompetent eye candy.

A seven day suspension is a perfect idea by WEEI though, because that is the average duration of outrage for the average PC thug. They will be too busy calling someone “racist” who made an off-color comment by next week. I know it is the principle, but we all know that all of the PC bozos will be on to something else by next week.
