It wouldn’t be a mayoral election in Fitchburg without at least one candidate with a past history of murder, or at least attempted murder……

Fitchburg Sentinel: A 25-year-old Fitchburg man arrested on charges he falsely claimed he shot a man at a Worcester strip club Sunday had pulled papers to run for mayor in February. Alexander Vera, 25, of 62 North St., is being held without bail in the Worcester jail. Police allege he lied to investigators in an apparent attempt to provide an alibi for a companion who actually fired the weapon. Vera, who had a valid license-to-carry permit issued by the Fitchburg Police Department, had his weapon and permit confiscated by Worcester police immediately after the shooting, which left one man with wounds to his legs, police Chief Ernest Martineau said Tuesday. Vera was charged with misleading a police investigation as a result of the incident that occurred at about 1:30 a.m. Sunday at the Riviera Show Club on Southbridge Street in Worcester, according to police.

On Sunday, an off-duty police officer working a private detail heard several gunshots while outside the club. The officer, responding to the gunfire, saw a man, later identified as John Mendez, 27, of 24 Boutelle St., Fitchburg, hand a firearm to Vera before discovering the man who had been wounded. The unidentified man was shot twice in the legs and taken to UMass Memorial Medical Center for treatment, according to police. His condition is unknown. Officers responding to the scene, questioned both men and Vera allegedly told them he had fired the weapon while Mendez claimed he hadn’t touched the gun. However, according to police, what Vera told officers was contradicted by the detail officer’s observations as well as security footage of the incident.

So let me get this straight. John Mendez and Alexander Vera were enjoying a quiet Wednesday evening at the classiest joint in town – the Riviera strip club on Southbridge Street. Alexander decides he’s just gonna hand over his legally registered gun to John Mendez, since he’s so level-headed. Because guns are Riviera strippers – you can just pass them on from one hoodrat to the next.

Here’s my questions – how the hell did this numbnuts get a gun permit in Fitchburg? In Worcester it’s almost impossible to get a gun. I’d assume the barriers are similar in a place like the Burg. And yet some 25 year old, who apparently lives in Lowell and just uses a Fitchburg address, has no problem getting a gun? Makes sense.

Naturally then his next move was to take out papers for mayor. Because if this guy can run:

Anyway, if you’re a regular at the Riviera strip club in Worcester, you kind of have to expect to get shot at least once. It’s science. After all, what kind of crowd do you think this is gonnna attract?

You don’t wanna see the kind of crowd looking for these PIP shelter recruits.

Anyway, “he who shall not be named” got over 1,000 votes for City Council last time he ran, proving that there are no shortage of morons in Fitchburg who have a problem voting for someone tied to a murder, never mind an attempted murder. So at this point you have to consider Alexander Vera the favorite at the polls in November. I know one guy who will be voting for him.
